Why did you decide to open a DPC office?

Both healthcare providers and patients are frustrated with the direction that healthcare is going in. I have seen the healthcare system change dramatically in the 20+ years that I have been practicing and not in a good way.

Healthcare is expensive. Patients come in, they have a copay and if they haven't met their deductible, they are usually getting a pricey bill for their office visit. This expense often prevents them from wanting to come back for follow up appointments that they really need, especially for chronic conditions. Instead they may just try to come in once a year and talk about all their issues, which is difficult to do when you are only given 30 minutes. It's not an ideal situation, and often results in the patient's condition deteriorating. On top of this, insurance companies want the highest possible reimbursement, which means that much of the appointment is focused on the electronic medical record instead of the patient. Finally, when a patient really needs an urgent acute appointment, there is no availability in the office, so they end up going to urgent care and seeing someone that doesn't know their health history.

It's a broken system, and I'm so excited to offer this DPC model to help change things. At my practice, we aim to offer affordable healthcare for a low monthly membership fee, with flexible booking and appointments when you actually need them."
